One-On-One with Jason Greene Own it! Look in the mirror and take ownership of what you see.  I have spent the last three  decades speaking to audiences about the dangers of tobacco, drugs and alcohol.  I  also talk about the joy that comes from taking care of your body through exercise and  eating healthier.  After several years of talks using everything from humor to breaking  flaming concrete with my arm in order to get my point across, it dawned on me that the  only point I really need to make is this "Take responsibility for your own actions!"  In  other words, own it.   So now I would like to tell you the same thing.  Stand up and look in the mirror and  own it.  That is your body and it is what you have made it.  No more excuses, it is time  for you to get honest with yourself.  Blaming others for your short comings has  become the American way of life and it is time to end it now.  Let's start with you.    Do you tell people that you do not have time to exercise?  In 2010 the average adult  spent about four and a half hours per day watching television.  That's 30 hours per  week!  On top of that they also spent an average of two and a half hours per day  online surfing the internet, or about 18 hours per week.  That my friend is a lot of  wasted exercise time! If you cannot bear to give up your favorite sitcom's, get an  elliptical or treadmill and put it in front of the TV and burn some calories while  watching the tube. What are you eating?  A better question, why are you eating it?  A lot of people love to blame fast food restaurants for being overweight, but I have never been in a  restaurant where I was forced to eat anything that I did not choose to eat.  Do you  realize it is always your choice? No matter where you are you can make the right  choice.  For instance the biggest, baddest fast food chain in the world, McDonald's, is  constantly adding low fat, low calorie choices and all the other chains are following  suit.  So, once again what goes in your mouth is up to you and no one else, own it! Let's get back to the mirror and you.  Now that you have owned your own reflection  what are you going to do about it?  If you don't like what you see, I can tell you what  not to do.  Don't put yourself on some kind of guilt trip or beat yourself up over past  mistakes.  That usually sends folks right to the freezer and the couch and trust me a  pint of Häagen-Dazs and a rerun of Sex And The City is not the answer.   Instead  decide what you want your reflection to look like in a year and start making the  choices and changes in order to achieve that reflection.  It's your reflection.  It belongs  to you and no one else, but you.  So, own it!
